Not Quite Spring (chickens)

In Missoula we don’t get a lot of sun over the winter. Just lots of dreary clouds and overcast days and far northern latitudes. We don’t light our chickens over winter, so they stopped laying around the end of November. Which I think is healthier for them. Natural cycle, rest period, blah blah blah. But the last week has been really sunny (except for today which is completely fogged up). I got half a dozen eggs in the last 5 days. Yay! Some of the birds are laying again! I have seen the Austrolorpes in the nest boxes a couple of times, though I would have bet on the Brahmas. There was even one white egg today. That means our lone Black Minorca is laying already too. Mmmm… Eggs!
